Residential water boreholes and ground source heating
Whatever the size of your property, a water borehole or ground source heat pump system is likely to save you money, reduce your carbon footprint and add value to your home.
Residential waterwell boreholes
Nicholls is one of the most experienced suppliers of residential water boreholes in the UK. Our experience and expertise in creating residential water borehole systems is unrivalled — from planning through installation to maintenance.
A domestic water borehole can provide clean, natural water for drinking, garden irrigation, swimming pools and general household use. Many of our residential clients see significant savings on their water bills from day one.
We handle all aspects of your project including geological assessments, system design, drilling, installation, water quality testing and ongoing maintenance. If an abstraction licence is required, our licensing team manages the entire application process.
Residential ground source heat pumps
Almost anyone in the right geology can have a GSHP system — including town properties, period homes and new builds. Systems work with both radiators and underfloor heating.
Our purpose-built geothermal rigs can fit through 5ft gaps and work in an area of approximately 5 parking spaces per borehole. We've completed installations in basements and under buildings prior to construction.
As MCS-certified installers, your system qualifies for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, reducing the upfront cost. A GSHP can produce approximately 4kW of heat for every 1kW of electricity used — saving you money and significantly reducing your carbon footprint.
Our residential solutions
Water boreholes
Private water supply for your home. Reduce or eliminate mains water bills with your own clean, natural water source.
Learn moreClosed-loop GSHP
The most common residential system. Sealed probes in vertical boreholes extract heat from the ground to heat your home.
Learn moreOpen-loop GSHP
Abstract water from a borehole and pass it through a heat exchanger. Can be more efficient than closed-loop in the right geology.
Learn moreDeep bore soakaways
Ideal where traditional drainage won't work. Discharge storm and surface water into porous geology below the surface.
Learn moreLicensing & permits
If your abstraction exceeds 20m³/day, we handle the full Environment Agency application process through our licensing division.
Learn moreServicing & maintenance
Annual service contracts, water quality testing, pump maintenance and system monitoring to keep everything running smoothly.
